In his Culver City, California studio, Guy ilan Laks concentrates on what he calls his “litters”, 10 or so paintings that he raises, celebrating the familial ties that bind them.

each piece imbued with a galactic infinity. His large scale paintings are an attempt to recapture the epic paintings of a pre photography and video world. 

The galaxies of the collective unconscious being a subject left uncatchable by a camera.

The surfaces are smooth, in spite of the depth of the seemingly pixelated ground.

Guy ilan was born in Boston, Massachusetts, though he moved often throughout his life.

Laks  has a BFA from SFAI (San Francisco Art Institute) studying closely with Bruce McGaw and Jeremy Morgan,  graduating in 2005. 

Later that same year, Laks founded AudioCinema, a 20,000 square-foot production facility, used by over 200 artists of all kinds, in Portland, Oregon, in which he built his art studios. 

During this time he exhibited with the New Mark Gallery in downtown San Francisco, the Galerie Seus Terre in Holland, and the Rake Gallery in downtown Portland. 

Guy ilan now lives in Los Angeles with his wife and daughter. A member of the the Jewish Artist Initiative, and the Los Angeles Art Association, he has been included in several Gallery 825 exhibits.

Laks continues to paint his litters, and the offspring are getting larger and finding their way onto some exciting walls.
