probable destruction of Jewish mural
The Jewish mural by noted Chicago muralist John Pitman Weber is in grave danger of being destroyed. This powerful artwork has been on the front wall of the Valley Jewish Community Center on Burbank Blvd. for 15 years. the building has been sold and the new owners have given the 90 day notice that it will be painted over. This would be a huge loss to Jewish arts in LA. I've written about it in various publications and have taken my UCLA students for visits frequently. The Jewish community needs to step up and provide both political pressure and, if necessary, removal funds. Information can be found at the Social and Public Art resource Center (SPARC) in Venice.
