Maya Zack: A Series of Conversations and Interactions

We are excited to share that the Center for Jewish Culture and Creativity (CJCC) will be co-sponsoring this exchange. Capitalizing on Zack's emerging artist status, together with the CJCC we applied for a young adult micro-grant from the Federation's NextGen Engagement Initiative. We received the requested funds. JAI and the CJCC are thankful for the support of the Jewish Federation's NextGen Engagement Initiative.

Maya Zack a 2000 Bezalel graduate already boasts an impressive filmography and catalog of worldwide film screenings, solo exhibitions, and awards. A frequent lecturer at Bezalel Academy and the Tel Aviv University Department of Film and Television, Zack is currently best known for her award-winning short film 'Mother Economy'. This masterful twenty-minute work, selected from 500 submissions as the winner of the Celeste Art Prize during the 2008 Berlin Video Art Festival, is a contemporary exploration of issues of Jewish identity, cultural memory, and emotions.

The Jewish Federation's LA/TA Visual Arts Committee, JAI, the CJCC, and the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust invites you to a video screening, Q & A, and Museum Tour on Sunday, November 7, 2010
Commemorating the anniversary of Kristallnacht, visiting artist Maya Zack will screen her award-winning short film Mother Economy, which critics have described as "a meditation on Holocaust remembrance and an homage to resourceful women during violent periods of political upheaval."

Screening on Wednesday, Nov 10, 7:00 -9pm
For one night only, LACE, the JAI, the CJCC and Federation's NEI Program will host a screening of Israeli filmmaker Maya Zack's work, Mother Economy. Zack will present her film along with a Q&A session exploring Jewish identity.

LACE (Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions) is located east of Highland and west of Cahuenga - cross street is Wilcox. Parking is available for $6.00 in the lot behind the building, accessible from Wilcox. There is also ample metered street parking available. LACE is near the 101 freeway and the Metro Red Line's Hollywood/Vine station. The galleries are wheelchair accessible.
Admission to the gallery is free with a recommended donation of $3.00.
